“Veronika Decides to Die” is definitely a masterpiece of Paulo Coelho. It deals with a girl who has everything and yet she is not satisfied. Her life is following the same pattern and she is bored out of it. And so, she tries committing suicide, but fails. Later, being admitted in a mental hospital, she develops a desire to live again even though, according to the doctors, she has a limited time! What she does in that limited time? What arouses her to see the world again? What happens next? You will have to find it out yourself for if I tell you, it will be like spoiling the whole fun!
The story is a bit humorous and it is interesting enough to have you glued for the whole night!I loved reading it and got most my answers through it regarding things concerning our society.
The book is simply terrific!Do find time to get lost in the world created by Paulo Coelho in this awesome novel!
Opinions of the people who have read this novel are most welcome.
Hey people, suggest interesting things that could be done when a person is bored out of his/her skull!!!
You can provide links to the interesting websites or tell what you think can be helpful in such a situation.
One evening, a young woman came home from a date, rather sad.
She told her mother, “Anthony proposed to me an hour ago.”
“Then why are you so sad?” her mother asked.
“Because he also told me he is an atheist. Mom, he doesn’t even believe there’s a Hell.”
Her mother replied, “Marry him anyway. Between the two of us, we’ll show him just how wrong he is.”
Today, I was standing with a friend waiting for my car when I saw a kid perform a stunt with his bicycle. He looked so cool doing wheeling and I had the urge to learn it and do the same. I conveyed my thoughts to the girl standing beside me and she was like, “Hello! You are a girl! You don’t want people seeing you do that!”
Now, that was something that really annoyed me ( though I did not show it at that time). Eventhough what my freind said was right, as in people would gibe at me, but the thing is: why having restriction on one’s action when it is entirely harmless? If a girl does something out of the normal circle of activities of females, she is bound to face criticism. I hate it when people cannot stand others to be different from them. They, normally, class them as nuts.
All this reminds me of a story I had read in a book. The story follows that there was a magician who hated the people of a kingdom, and so he mixed the poison in the well from which the people drink water. The next day, all the inhabitants had drowned the poison down their throats and became mad. The Royal Family, however, was saved from drinking water. The King, seeing the odd behaviour of his subjects, issued the order to the health ministry of providing his people with some medication. Since the entire nation was suffering from the poison, they considered the action of King to be insane and marched to the fortress for his abduction. The King was about to give up when Queen told him to drink water from the well and become like the others. The King then ruled till his last breath.
The thing to be understood from the story is that out there in the world people have drunk from that same well and want others to live the way they want. They would throw all the criticism at someone who acts out of so-called normal. What is to be done is so give a tad about what poeple have to say and live the life the way you want.
So, if I ever get a chance, I will learn how to do the wheeling, and I will do it while not even sparing a single thought as to what people will think of me!
Day before yesterday, dust storm had every inch of my room covered in dust giving it a new look. However, the maid intervened and she cleaned the room excluding the area occupied by my computer table for there were wires all over the place. Since she was afraid of electric components, she did not bother taking the risk and left my computer table as such. In the end, it was me who was left with this tiresome task. It took me full one hour to tidy the outcasted place and in cleaning up all the hardware including the interior of my mouse, when I could have been doing something important!
During cleaning, I was thinking that cleaners should be Matric pass or at least they should have studied “Electricity” topic in Physics. They would be then literate enough to realise that fully insulated wires cause no electric current even when current is passing through them (I am not making it all up. Actually this is exactly what the maids think!). Also, it would save others all the trouble of going through the boring job of making things speckless when something far better awaits their attention.
So, what you people say: slightly literate maids would make a good job or should we restrict ourselves to the old ones and get our precious time wasted (no eyebrow raising for I have become a bit time conscious. Cheers!)? However, such literate servants would be hard to find.
This novel of Paulo Coelho revolves around a mysterious woman Athena who was orphaned when she was born. The story is actually based on the interviews collected from people who had known this female. From what is written, the miseries and problems faced by Athena are made clear.
Also, the novel goes into the details of some long forgotton religious traditions. According to the novel, there is a spark in a person which can lead to “Mother” partially possessing the body of a person, if he acts out of routine. I found this ideatotally absurd.
Furthermore, there was mentioning of God that if He is replaced by a goddess, there would be love, peace and passion in the world. What a ridiculous thing to put in a story! Before you think it was a fiction type novel, let me remind you that real people had their interviews taped.
Anyway, I found this novel a bit touchy at start but towards its end, the story was not at all interesting. It was then full of trances, aromas, Mother -the goddess of Earth and skies, St. Sarah -the Goddess of gypsies, and some other boring stuff regarding powers.
If you are seeking a pleasure reading, please do not go for this novel for you will be then constantly cursing Paulo Coelho.
Today I broke the burette worth Rs.1400 especially brought in from England!!! The ultimate damage to the school’s property! Now, this is something to be really proud of!
The lab assistant, however, did not take it as something to feel good about and he so not sympathised with my carelessness! He had me sign the register confessing my crime!!! I was tensed earlier. I have just Rs. 500 in my account ( that too by some luck!) and there are still a thousand rupees needed (the option of going to my parents is out of question)! Now what? And then clicked my mind: Why not to follow the policy of Paki people and establish “CHANDA BARRAI BURETTE”?!
So, “Merrai pyarrai naik aur hamdard musalman bhai aur bheno (some buttering had to be done), give your donations to your this Musalman Baihun and save her from the wrath of her superiors! It is a prestigious month of Ramazan and you will be rewarded for this nobel act. So, hesitate not and give “Chanda barai burette!!!”" ………
Caution: I drive like you do!”
“I brake for scholars, priests, and no apparent reason.”
“You’ve obviously mistaken me for someone who cares.”
“My other car bumper sticker is funny.”
“I’m in no hurry; I’m on my way to work.”
“I’m not a complete idiot, some parts are missing.”
“I just got a new car for my wife today. Best trade I ever made.”
“Back off! I’m not that kind of car.”
“I may be slow but I’m ahead of you!”
“I’m not deaf… I’m just ignoring you.”
I found these while I was googling for quotations for a cousin. So, which ones do you think are the best???
