Singing the Praises of Khaled Hosseini
July 14, 2007The novel “The Kite Runner” is a real masterpiece of Khaled Hosseini. The story, which revolves around an Afghani boy to the age when he gets married and his later years of life, is simply full of turns and twists when you are least expecting them. The author has written so well that the reader is bound to get lost in the imaginary world created by the story. So marvellously is the story developed that one would be glued to it. Guaranteed. Furthermore, it is a bit emotional as well. So, better read it in an isolated place where no one can see you. Otherwise, you are running a grave risk of being tagged as a “cry baby!”
I have been reading his second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and boy! What an awesome tale is being narrated! I have only read it’s fourteen chapters, but I can easily predict that this novel too would become a bestseller.
The Godforsaken country: Pakistan
July 11, 2007To this date, the election year of 2007 has been marked by severe political instability, bloody riots, and crisis throughout the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. One does not find it unusual for such type of events had taken place in the past. Actually, it is the history repeating itself and bringing with it all miseries.
Looking back, one can easily see what pakistan had been going through. There had been this military operation in Bajaur agency, the frequent suicide bombing, the unforgetable horrifying massacre in Karachi on CJ ’s arrival, the highly embarracing Lal Masjid (Red Mosque) sceneraio, the pro-talibaan attacks in north-western areas, and what not! I will not go into the details of the incidents which seem to be never ending. However, i can say it quite easily that provided such circumtances, life would definitely be difficult for a common man and it seems, we Pakistanis are doomed to suffer.
Although Pakistan had been an ally of the west, yet it did not enjoy having a good reputation abroad. Oflate, because of the defaming incidents, it’s image is further scarred. It is being considered as a haven for terrorists. Not that I am saying it is right, but then one cannot ignore the current affairs concerning this country.
Where we are failing in politics, the aspect of providing basic necessities of life to the people has also come under the effect. There had been shortage of power supply, and constant loadshedding is messing with the lives of people. The budget did ease problems, but not entirely. In my opinion, it was meant solely for getting political mileage rather than actually solving the problem of poverty. Furthermore, the two nuclear reactors are not working to full capacity and we are building a third nuclear reactor! Wow, what an idea!
It is obvious that Pakistan is going through real bad days, but lets not make it the worst era of its life.
Crank Callers & Cheapsters: so similar words!
July 8, 2007It is not unusual for guys with a cell phone to give crank calls to girls. Their ulterior motives are either to annoy the girl or to befriend with her. In the first case, they are mostly successful and the girl has to switch off her cellphone, and restore to her brother’s assistance. However, they badly fail in having her as a chap.
What guys do not understand is that their gruff voices would so not play a music on girls’ ears. Combined with this and the cheap sentences they use like, “I love you!” , “app kia haal hain, darling!” ,etc, etc, they ensure that the girl has this feeling of grabbing their necks and thrusting their faces in the shit!
look guys, no offense, but you need to realize the facts. You know what? Girls are interested in the looks and minds of guys but so not their “melodious” voices. So, better find some other ways of impressing girls rather then making their blood boil by giving crank calls!
